DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK
PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT: Camp Dearborn in Milford, Michigan
MINIMUM AGE: 15 years of age
STARTING RATE OF PAY: $15.00 per hour
HOURS/PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT: Seasonal position - Mid-April through October; This is a seven-day operation during the camp and golf seasons; the employee must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Extended time off during this period is extremely limited. Shifts vary but cover mornings, afternoon, evenings and overnight.
Employees under 16 years of age will be limited to shifts that align and follow state and federal regulations for minors.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

This is general manual labor at Camp Dearborn. Duties include, but are not limited to assisting with the operation of Recreation Field, Shelters, and other onsite facilities, trash collection, painting, lawn maintenance, cleaning comfort stations, and other duties as assigned. Additionally, employees above the age of 18 may collect entrance fees and issues entrance passes, prepare reports and may perform other clerical duties as assigned.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Several functions are not permitted for staff under the age of 16. Tasks will be assigned by management in accordance with regulations governing the employment of minors)
  • This position is responsible for ensuring the safety and exceptional experience of all campers and guests at Camp Dearborn.
  • May physically load and unload heavy objects for an extended period of time.
  • Operates landscaping equipment within Camp Dearborn grounds.
  • Sweeps and mops floors, cleans comfort stations using commercial cleaners.
  • Assist with Recreation field operations including, but not limited to; teaching arts and crafts, camp songs, organization of games (all ages), planning and running special events, ability to be creative.
  • Works outdoors in extreme heat, rain or other unfavorable weather.
  • Communicates effectively and follows oral and written instructions.
  • May collect entrance fees & issue entrance passes.
  • Maintain simple records and prepares complete reports in a neat and timely manner. Prepares daily reports.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with others.
  • Tactfully enforces rules and regulations and may work independently at times.
  • Wears required uniform. Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
  • Continually maintains a positive attitude and provides exceptional customer experience.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Skill in accurately counting and recording cash transactions with speed.
  • Some knowledge of routine office practices and methods.
  • Previous customer service training with a positive attitude and outgoing personality.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING/LICENSING REQUIREMENTS
EXAMINATION PROCEDURE:

Applications will be reviewed. Qualified applicants will be scheduled for an interview to be held at Camp Dearborn.
NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Must submit to a criminal history check and pre-employment physical/drug screen.
Part Time employees are not eligible for City provided health and welfare benefits.
