Job Description
PAVING FOREMAN

M.T. Laney Co. Inc. is an established successful construction firm located in Eldersburg, MD. We are searching for an experienced, committed, career-minded Paving Foreman to be part of our growing team in the Baltimore/Washington Metropolitan area.

The ideal candidate will be a team player who is highly motivated with a strong work ethic and desires to be part of a skilled construction team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Always ensures a safe work environment for self and others
  • Ensure project profitability
  • Work cooperatively with work crews, customers, engineers, etc.
  • Ability to provide a safe work environment by creating a culture of safety for the project and holding everyone on the project accountable for safe behavior
  • Perform daily visual inspections of equipment and job site and document any equipment/issues in need of service or attention
  • Maintain regular and open communication with the Project Management Team
  • Maintain all field documentation (e.g., work orders, rental-related documents, field service contracts, change orders, etc.)
  • Maintain and forecast project needed materials accordingly
  • Other duties as assigned

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, instructions, and specifications to determine work activities
  • Inquiries about mobilization and lead times for subcontractors and materials
  • Calculate job progress, risks and time necessary to perform tasks
  • Monitor the quality of all work self-performed or subcontracted
  • Comply with municipality requirements, specifications, safety standards, and company policies
  • Communicate with Project Manager, Owner, Subcontractor, employees, inspectors, suppliers, architects, and engineers
  • Responsible for interpretation of contract documents, project layouts and problem-solving
  • Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed
  • Operate various pieces of heavy equipment as needed to maintain productivity
  • Work with Project Manager on plan reviews, design and key contract terms and materials needed to complete the project
  • Coordinate with the transportation department and General Superintendent on equipment needs
  • Perform weekly toolbox talks" regarding job site safety or other site related matter
  • Must have strong computer skills and maintain accurate attendance, manpower needs and site-related activities using tablet and software
  • Develop and train field laborers and operators to encourage them to better, grow, and understand their responsibilities

SALARY/HOURLY EXEMPTION:
  • Full-Time, Non-Exempt Position
  • Salary based on knowledge, experience, and education

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions that can include extreme cold and heat
  • Work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust that is typically associated with a construction project
  • Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required

WORKING HOURS/EXPECTATIONS:
  • Ability to work more than 40 hours in any given week including weekend assignments as required

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, bend, kneel, or crouch on all different types of terrain
  • Frequent bending, twisting, and standing
  • The employee is also regularly required to talk, hear, or smell as well as use hands to finger, handle or feel
  • The employee must regularly lift 75 pounds, and/or move on occasions
  • Exposure to working outdoors in all-weather conditions
  • Drive and sit for prolonged amounts of time
  • Must be able to pass a DOT Physical & Drug Screen

EDUCATION:
  • High school or equivalent is preferred

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Valid Driver License
  • OSHA 10 Certification preferred
  • CPR training preferred
  • Competent Person Paving training preferred

NON-ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Experience with Heavy Jobs software is a plus

EXPERIENCE:
  • At least 5 years of Paving experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of management experience
