The North Carolina Department of Administration is seeking applicants for a Maintenance/Construction Tech II for our Facility Management division located in Raleigh, NC. The primary mission of Facility Management is to provide a safe and healthful work environment for employees and the public in a cost effective and energy efficient manner. This mission is accomplished by performing routine, preventive, and emergency maintenance to state facilities owned by and allocated to the Department of Administration.
Key Responsibilities:
The primary purpose of this position is to perform general carpentry duties including maintenance and repairs to floors, doors, windows, and alterations of historical houses. Work includes installing and repairing all types of partitions such as metal stud and dry walls, RACO walls, Vaughn walls, also includes track ceiling (lay in), spline ceiling, sheetrock, and plaster. Work also includes repairs on all types of roofs, such as built-up, asphalt, shingle, slate roof, rubber membrane and modified.
This position not only handles general carpentry work but also performs moderately complex trades such as duplication of exterior molding/trim and returning it to the original design for historical homes; installing carpet, wood flooring an ceramic tile; pouring and finishing concrete; operating construction equipment; installing drywall and ceiling tile; glazier for glass repair; hazardous material removal (asbestos and mold removal); installing insulation; painting; working with sheet metal and water proofing. Additionally, position may be required to install doors; erect metal buildings; repair and install venetian blinds; install curtain rods and drapery; install weather stripping; install bulletin boards; hang wall cabinets and pictures; install soap dispensers; install tissue holders; assemble metal shelves and metal cabinets; repair casters on chairs; repair chair mats; repair water proofing on external walls; install sign; repair metal windows; repair carts and other parts of furniture.

The Department of Administration serves as the business manager for North Carolina state government and provides leadership to state government agencies for the effective, efficient, economical and equitable delivery of services to the public. The department also provides assistance and services to several advocacy programs that serve diverse segments of the state's population that have traditionally been underserved. The agency's mission directs departmental efforts to: acquire, develop and maintain properties and facilities; create and operate an efficient system to purchase and dispose of goods and services to meet the needs of government agencies; provide excellent operational services to state employees; achieve fair and equitable opportunities and representation for various segments of the population that have special needs; and to provide administrative support to independent state government agencies.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Proper operation and safe use of tools and equipment such as hand tools, ladders, scaffolding, and aerial lifts.
Experience in reading and visualizing architectural plans, drawings, and specifications.
Experience in performing mathematical calculations necessary in estimating materials, the construction and renovation of buildings, and building office furnishings.
Experience in building and erecting wood and metal structures.
Experience in repairing and installing components of structure (i.e., sheetrock, doors, siding, columns, flooring, etc.)
ADDITIONAL EXPECTATIONS:
The position requires standing for long periods of time and performing manual labor.
The position may require exposure to extreme environmental conditions.
The position may require working at heights up to sixty-five feet or more.
The position may require the use of a respirator and other personal protective equipment. Medical certification is required to verify the individuals' ability to wear and use a respirator. This is a condition of employment.
The position requires the ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/ or more than 50 pounds of force frequently and/ or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
The position may require working in close quarters, crawl spaces, shafts, manholes, small, enclosed rooms, sewage and water line pipes and other confined areas.
The position may require the ability to operate construction equipment such as Tow Motor, 85' Genie Lift, 120' Genie Lift and 35' Lull Lift.
The position may require hazardous material removal. This includes identifying, removal, packaging, transporting, and disposing of all hazardous materials generated by the other trade shops including asbestos.
The individual hired for this position must be familiar with building, life and safety codes.
Employee is required to wear a uniform, picture ID badge, use safety equipment and follow safety regulations which are provided by the state.
NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS:
Valid NC Driver's License with acceptable driving record. Out of State Applicants must have valid Driver's License or acquire NC Driver's License within 60 days of hire. Candidate must present proof of a valid NC Driver's License and proof of an acceptable driving record.
Employee must complete Asbestos Operation Maintenance and Removal Training within one year of hire.
Employee must complete Entry Permit Confined Space Training within one year of hire.
Ability to retrieve work assignments from AIM through the iPhone.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one (1) year of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualification May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.
